Message from Italy to Austria and Turkey
Well, here we are. France is claiming to move back. Obviously if you
both try to take me out, there is nothing I can do to stop you.
Still, I hope that I can convince you not to play into France's hands by
giving him exactly what he wants. Not to mention that you can not hold
him back with only your 3 fleets. Once you take Tunis (if you do), you
still have to HOLD it. If you eliminate my fleet, then once he puts
fleets back in Naf, Wes and Lyo, your F Ion is forced to guess between
supporting Tun and Tys. Guess wrong once, and you lose. Sure you might
guess right enough times to get your F Bla into play, but why risk it - is
the difference between 3 way and 4-way really that much of a bonus?
I don't know what if anything Tamas has been telling you, but to me he's
spouting some sort of garbage about the EP house rules or the GM's house
rules or whatever. Basically he is saying that it is "required" to
eliminate me, or you would be playing against the rules. This kind of
rules lawyering is the exact bunch of crap that I *hate* about Diplomacy,
and I can't believe he has sunk this low - I hope that if/when he spouts
it to you that you don't fall for it.
I don't want to go overboard here but this rule, while decent in theory,
is a complete failure in practice. I mean, if the rule says that you are
"required" to whittle me to go from 4 to 3, then by definition, Turkey and
France are then "Required" to eliminate Austria to go from 3 to 2? And if
I *must* be eliminated on 1 center, what's the cutoff? Would I be safe
with 2? 3? 4?
Anyway, I think the best plan, if you are in agreement, is to let me
re-occupy Rom and Nap. That way we can demonstrate to Tamas that we are
not going to give in to his chicanery. Who knows, maybe if we hold out
long enough, he'll start giving US centers instead of just backing off.
Wouldn't it be funny to eliminate him after he was on 17? :-)
If all else fails, I respectfully request that if you plan to eliminate
me anyways, you at least let me plead my case, since there is nothing I
can do anyways.
