Message from France to Russia
Nicky,
I am sorry. Nice broadcast though. It appears that the game is
finished now.
>I warned Dan that you were about to eliminate
>me, so he should support GoL-TyS this turn
>if he wanted to throw the game to you, rather
>than be eliminated by Turkey.

Did he reply to you? I think that I have exhausted all my
options concerning diplomacy with him and unfortunately I
did not seem to be convincing enough. Well, that's life, I am
looking forward to the press log to see how AT could make a better
case then me. There is one long message to I left, which I am
about to send at some point but it most probably is only
for the history books.
best,
tamas

Tamas,

No problem, eliminations happen. I was a "dead man
walking" for years, anyway.

I thought setting Draw after my retreat was a nice
touch. ;-)

I would hope so! 8-)

No, but I just wrote to him again. We'll see.

I have just finished composing this final press to him. I did it for
the fun and mostly
for the press-log. If you want, I can send it to you for comments
before it goes
to Italy. But it is long(!)

Right, we both know the story just too well: you have made up your
mind and I have my broadcast orders in without wait which I will not
change now. But I am more than happy to send you the never-sent
press for pure entertainment and for the history records
take care,
Tamas
------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, I tell you what. This is I guess my last message which counts
in this game. I have collected twelve arguments which might help
you decide what you do, they are all in favor of the French solo.
I suggest that you give a score to each of them like this:
* +3: very convincing, can hardly resist
* +2: convincing
* +1: neutral
* 0: quite unconvincing
If the score you get is lower than 12 then you should throw to AT.
If it is higher then you might consider the opposite. Have fun.
1. We have done great things together, think about Mar (twice),
Kie, Tun,... How does that compare with your adventures with
Turkey?
2. I have complied with almost anything you asked for, often
I gave you chances (for both of us) to finish "winning". I was
luckier in this game, otherwise my assistance could have easily
turned into your success story. I definitely did more _for_ you
than against (just see where my centers are: as I had promised, my
gameplan would not involve Italy at all).
3. This game started with you stabbing me. England stabbed me
and did not talk to me. I kept staying on good terms with you
and I enjoyed playing with you _very_ much, I do not remember a
single time when we were not friends. Compare this to Turkey's
conduct all along the game and imagine what will be in our EOG's.
4. All three of your home centers you "gave" to AT. I have given
you _my_ home center (twice), helped you to Tun; are you now giving
your fourth traditionally Italian center to AT?
5. You had said, you had been living on borrowed time. You had
been fighting against me for years, to stop my solo, from community
spirit, even with a Turkish army in Nap (not needed for the job),
little hope to survive. Then you were stabbed and for a short
while we had FI. We did great things but if AT gets Tunis, they
will get their 17, and you end up on the losing side. You cannot
survive but the glorious retake of Tun would have put you on the
winning side if I got Tun.
6. AT has not written for a long time and even longer they have
not written a decent message. As for Turkey I can hardly
remember his last civilized press. Giving Tun to him justifies
all he did (anti)socially in his game.
7. You said twice “I will bow out of Tunis if you want”, “I will
throw you the game”. You ment it, because there was nothing you
would have gained from saying these. If you cannot turn it into
survival, would it not make sense not to break useless promises?
8. This is a showcase game, people are watching. You will be
applauded for trying everything possible (and impossible) in the
end even at the cost of breaking your promise of bowing out of
Tun for me. But you will not get much credit for threatening
with throwing the game, then being stabbed, then throwing to AT.
9. Think about the very diplomacy when we secured Tunis,
Diplomacy at its best: remember how we found out (from our enemies)
what Austria was up to and how we guessed correctly what to do based
on their talk related to StP. We won that great battle, I would
say the battle of the game and still you might give them Tunis.
Will you not be sorry for that when Turkey puts his boot in?
10. You said that F and T are both guilty when you get eliminated.
Is it a tie then and what breaks it in favor of T? Turkey broke
the IT agreement, I did not break the FI one. You kept the IT
agreement, but you are breaking the FI one.
11. You just said: “what about the tactic of playing the end to
influence other players, and their potential play in future games?
I think that this is a widely accepted tactic”. I will certainly
remember one thing going into my future games: playing with you is
good. What should I (or the others) remember concerning the weight
of your threats (concretely, threating with throwing the game)?
12. Did you know that “Tamas” has a Greek origin and means
“wonderful”?
Best,
Tamas
Message from Russia to France and Italy
Gentlemen,
Tun-NAf, WMed-Tun, GoL S MAO-WMed would
give France the Solo. It's probably best to do it
this Spring, if you're going to do it.
Eric.
Message from Turkey to all
Everyone,
I will be gone from 8/1/03 until 8/11/03...and may be fairly busy
from wednesday on
Master,
Can I have an extension then?

Oh, come on, there is at most two turns worth of
play left in the game. Either France gets Tunis,
Turkey gets Tunis, or it's a 4-way.

I don't think you have much of a pronostication leg to stand on.
Weren't you the person that thought I was hell bent on eliminating
you? and your good buddy France was your savior?

Ok, technically, you could convoy Rom-Tun and give
Tunis to Austria, but it still requires no more than two
turns to finish this.
> Weren't you the person that thought I was hell bent
> on eliminating you?
No, you were hell-bent on keeping me from establishing
the Scandinavian section of the stalemate line, which
meant that France could eliminate me whenever he
chose to.
> and your good buddy France was your savior?
No, I knew that the only way I'd survive was if France
Soloed before I was eliminated. Now the only question
is, who holds Tunis when the game ends.
Eric.
Message from France to Russia
Nicky,
I have not gotten any reply from Italy for many days, have you?
I am not very impressed by his lack of giving me a clear yes or no,
but I guess I have no other option but understand it as a no and
let the game end :-(
Tamas
Message from Russia to France
Tamas,
> I have not gotten any reply from Italy for many days, have you?
No. No private press in 10 days.
> I am not very impressed by his lack of giving me a clear yes or no,
> but I guess I have no other option but understand it as a no and
> let the game end :-(
Well, the alternative is to assume he means yes, and
tell him that you're ordering as I suggested:
(WMed-Tun, MAO-WMed, GoL S MAO-WMed)
and ask him to order Tun-NAf. If he doesn't, you
don't really lose anything except the time you wait
for Turkey to return and finish him off. If he does,
you win.
Eric.
Message from France to Italy
Dan,
Kind of sad that you are ending this game with a one-week silence, but I
guess you are still finishing with a very good press/unit ratio as far as
the game:-)
> So, if I manage to convince A and/or T to let me have Naples or Rome and
> return home centers to me, you're saying that you would consider it?
With this message I am assuming that even this last sentence from you got
off the agenda and the game is really over. I am setting nowait now: you
have half an hour for your final wish if you have one :-)
