France: Army Belgium can retreat to Picardy

Message from Russia to England

Ben,

Just noticed that the turn processed (odd, my mailer did not flag the "c2"
mailbox as having new mail).

Well, obviously you won't be happy with my moves. I kind of expected Erik
would put up a better fight than he did, which made the move seem like a
reasonable one. The "good" news is that him folding leaves you in a pretty
good position, and meanwhile I'm dependent on the ever-trustworthy Tony.

It's my understanding that nothing is going to happen until after the
holidays, so we've got time to talk about what (if anything) to do from
here. You are also welcome to a "what the F$%@ were you thinking!?!"
message or three in the meantime. If it helps any, the moves were entered
when watching the Raiders game last night. (That's a joke.)

I trust that what happens in this game won't impact your enjoyment of the
holidays, and all the good wishes sent your way before still remain.

Talk to you later,

--- Eric

Message from Russia to Italy

Andy,

Well, now it's my turn to congratulate you. I don't know how you convinced
Jason to back out of Greece, but it worked really well for you. And Erik is
in real trouble -- which doesn't help my northern situation any either.
Overall a very good turn for you.

As for Jason and I, I was already to invite you to the wedding, but his
moves give me some pause. I'll get back to you on that one. :)

Happy holidays, and again, congrats on the good negotiations/moves.

--- Eric

Message from Russia to Austria

Philippe,

Sorry to stay in Bud. Without getting the clear message that you were
supporting me out, I didn't feel it was safe to move out. I guess that was
a good call. I certainly don't blame you for trying to retake it. I've
explained my thinking enough, I won't bore you with a rehash at this point.

I won't suggest any specific negotiations with you at this point, because
it's my assumption that you will be trying to take Bud until I'm gone from
there (and perhaps even afterwards).

It's my understanding that you are gone until after the holidays, so I hope
you had a good time however you feel about the results here.

Message from Russia to France

Erik,

Damn, I thought you would use Bur to support Bel just in case, but I guess
I should have said something. As you can see, I did what I could to put
pressure on Ben, but with his taking of both Bel and Hol I'm afraid it
might not be enough. And with Jason letting Andy keep Italy -- I really
don't understand it.

Well, how do you want to proceed? I think we might want to try to let Tony
take Hol, because at least it hurts Ben. From there he can help you into
Bel. I don't know if he's up for this, but it's a possibility.

Let me know what you think, and happy holidays.

--- Eric

Message from Russia to Germany

Tony,

Very interesting results. I had expected that Ben would be down one. Oh
well. I told Erik that I wasn't going to give up Mun, so I thought he'd
support Bel. Oh well.

So how would you like to go forward. Are you still willing to push west?
Hol is probably yours -- I think even Erik would help you pull that off.

--- Eric

Message from Russia to Turkey

Jason,

Your moves completely confused me. Putting an army into Rum makes it look
like you are trying to threaten me in Sev, but you supported me in Bud,
which helps me. Moving Gre-Aeg, Aeg-Eas makes it look like you were afraid
of Andy, but it lets him keep all of his units and puts Bul at risk. The
moves I suggested (Aeg S Gre, Bul S Ser, Bla-Rum) would have gotten you two
builds instead of the one you ended up with, and you would have better
access to Italy.

I'm not trying to be a pain here, and I hope this doesn't sound like I'm
lecturing you or anything. I really have been trying to help you out, but
clearly there is something you are worried about that you haven't been
talking about. Can you tell me what you are trying to do? Maybe I can help
you accomplish it. I'd feel a whole lot more comfortable if we coordinated
moves more closely. If one of us makes moves that don't correspond to what
we're talking about, then we can both get screwed over.

I've backed off and given you Rum as promised. I think you need to get that
army (Rum) back up to Bul or Andy and Philippe are going to start taking
centers off of you. If you are willing to help me next Spring, I can help
you get into Tri next Fall.

We should have some time before we need to decide our next moves, but get
back to me and let me know what you are thinking.

Have a happy holiday season,

--- Eric

Message from Germany to Russia

Hi Eric, yes I am still willing to move west.
It's the first time in my diplomacy carreer that I have played this roll and
I am enjoying it :-)

I will attack HOL from RUH supported by KIE. If MUN can support KIE then at
least I dont risk losing KIE.
On the other hand the following spring move would be better. PIC - BEL
supported by RUH & BUR. MUN S KIE.

This ensures thta BEL falls definitely. I think if you are on good terms
with Erik that you should set up a 3 way press mentioning the option. If he
and I hit BEL/HOL then only one may fall as NTH can support BEL.

Was the turk meant to take RUM?

Tony

Well, now my Christmas is ruined.

You write this as if we are now locked into our courses. I do not think
/you/ think that way; I know *I* don't.

Um, moves are due on 12/25, by my reading of the Judge.

Consider whether you want to dominate the North and the Austrian home
centers simultaneously. You will be the early leader and there will be no
solo for you - trust me, I've tried (zulu on ustx - just finished). I
continue to be no threat to you, though as you commented yourself, beyond
DEN there's just not much there for you. More profitable would be the
German centers first, I would think. . .

If you build in the north you will be facing - my guess - an EIT. If you
do not threaten me with a northern build then you will be free to operate
without the early leader albatross around your neck.

We will see your thoughts, on the map, soon enough.

Ben

Thank you.

Im still not quite sure why he attacked me...Im sure you had a hand in
it..:-)

Pointing out how well I did, while getting 2 builds, and the ability to
take back the dot you gave away to appease the peasants, anytime you want
is a good strategy. But you accomplished what you needed to....keeping BUD
and setting up on Vienna. Unless you are still offering it to me.

Why?

You have him smoking from the Tzar's bong.

Thanks...

Best to you and yours as well...

take care

Merry Christmas and a Happy new year to you and your families, players and

Message from Turkey to Russia

Hey Evil One! :-)

I let Andy into Greece because I didn't want him to get overrun by
France. I wasn't planning on him putting a fleet there, though, and with
France down two builds, I'll probably take it back this year.

I'll make sure to cover Bul, no problem, while we head west against
Austria. I believe there was talk of my getting Tri before, and I'd like
to continue with that. With A Rum, I can support Bud while you help me
into Tri, and my fleets maneuver to retake Gre.

Message from France to all

Happy holidays to all. Except for Ben, who's clearly a slanderous,
treacherous toad, what with his accusations of Satanism and all.

And for the commentators, I swear I will be more enlightening in the new
year.
