Message from France to Master, England, Italy, and Russia
Fellows:
Some general information and then some information to
each of you, sorry for the joint message. I have little
time.
I will not be able to handle the next Spring Phase until
after Christmas. I suddenly will have to go out of town
for a funeral. I apologize for the delay (I would
rather not have the need to go). Between rushing to get
everything done, a 24 hours experiment, and needing rest
before a 13 hour drive, I will have little time. This
is a bad time of year for it, but when is there a good
time?
I will take care of the retreats and adjustments before I
go. I realize that someone may need an break between
Xmas and New Years, if so we will have to pick this up
after the 1st.
I know my moves were a gamble, but I wanted the game to
end so I took some chances. I took my one shot at glory,
but fell short. <Shrug> Better luck next time.
Doug:
I will need that extension that I warned you about. But
wait until I give you the details.
Roberto:
You set me up well. I was nervous but took the risk
because of wanting to end the game soon. Nice job.
There are no hard feelings on my part. I am sure that I
deserved it.
Nick:
I apologize most to you. You can now staunchly enroll me
in the 'I will not set draw until Italy is eliminated'
club. Do I get an ID or something? :-)
Ivy (&Nick):
Upon my return, you will find me cooperative, a bit
cautious, but very honest. I will be happy with a
three-way draw. If you choose another path, that is of
course your call. You will have some time to reflect on
the best course of action.

Message from France to England and Russia

I wanted to expand a bit on the three way draw. I am
willing to accept the following idea:
We shake hands and agree on a 13-13-14 draw. We move
towards that in a reasonable fashion. When we get close
enough we randomly determine who will have 14. I am sure
that we can find some event in the world (like some
state's Lotto bonus number or the summ of all the NFL
football scores).
This is a sincere offer. (I know I may not have a lot of
credibility now). But Italy damaged me quite a bit. I
knew with my last set of orders that I would either win
or be crushed. That was actually my preference for the
two possible outcomes. I did not want to end up near a
victory because then there would both be the temptation
and the nervousness on your part. I am now no threat and
the possibility for eliminating Italy safely is available
to you two, should you choose to take it. I guess that I
do not deserve it, but you may choose it for your own
reasons.
I actually have not seen all the damage. I suspect it
was major. My disbands will be focussed on eliminating
Italian units without being a threat to you two.

Roger,
My condolences on your and your family's loss. Don't
woory about the game, it will be here when you're
ready to come back. I realize this won't be the
happiest of holidays for your family, but hopefully
the joys of your small children at Christmas will
give you and your wife some comfort.
You've mentioned experiments a couple of times now.
It turns out that both Ken and I are computer
programmers/analysts, while Allen is a University
Math Prof. Might I ask what you do for a living?
