Message from France to Russia

Nick:

Oh well, I guess that you are not available. I hope that you arranged
things well in the North. In the South I have no choice but to do what
I must do to insure that Italy ends up with as few centers as possible.
This may not be the optimum, but it is the best that I can do. It is
certainly not even foolproof, but the best option. I sure hope that you
are taking Warsaw.

Message from England to Italy and Russia

Please friends, stay calm. Don't write that note. We were less
coordinated that we could have been, but let's stick together. He cannot
get 18 if we do, and we should be able to reduce him.

Ivy

Message from England to Russia

Nick,

I think the west went quite well. I am in Picardy, but at least France
didn't move to the Channel. The best part was the destruction of Holland.
I thought he would either take Kiel or counter our move with
Holland->Belgium.

Italy will be furious over the move to Warsaw. He had stated that his
moves would change if he was going to lose Warsaw. However, the mixup
would not have happened had he been in communication earlier than today.
There is only so much that can be expected of us at the last minute. We
have other responsibilities, families, etc.

I hope that we don't get into an open argument over this.

Ivy

Message from Italy to Russia

> Russia: Army Livonia -> Warsaw.

I'm trying not to overreact but is there an explanation for this move that
I'm not aware of (other than you wanted your home center back)?

Message from Russia to France

Sorry for being out of touch before the deadline, my wife wanted the
PC. If it's any comfort, England didn't want to be in Pic, you're
building two, and Italy is annoyed about Lvn-War. I just woke up
and read my mail, and looked at the results so I have no analysis to
offer at this point.

(The Russian player backspaces over his real name.8-)

Message from Russia to England and Italy

Gentlemen,

I'm sorry about the confusion over Warsaw and the fact that I was out
of touch before the last couple of hours before the deadline. My wife
had some things to do on the PC and my son need help with his
homework. (This is the down-side of not beginning negotiations until
twelve hours before the deadline. Sometimes, not everything gets
settled.)
In talking to Ivy after dinner, I decided that Lvn-War made more
sense with Gal-Vie, and Sev left open, and then I had to go offline.
Hopefully Roberto will not be quite as busy as Idalia has been, now
that the Turk has been eliminated. I will build A Mos, and move
Mos-Ukr, and almost certainly, War-Gal.

Nick.

I really didn't do it to punish him for waiting until the last minute, but I
did feel that if anyone had to disband it should be him. (Well, ok,
France, Turkey, and then Italy, but you get the point. 8-) Hopefully,
Roberto won't be too annoyed. (His letter to me was more of a "Huh?
I thought...", rather than a, "You Devil! I'm throwing the game to
France now!", so I think we'll be ok.)

Message from France to Russia

Nick:

>If it's any comfort, England didn't want to be in Pic
We could have prevent it if you had told me the plan.

For what it is worth, I do not want him in Picardy
either. We are very close to the point where my defense
is cracked and I start handing over centers to Ivy, to
hasten his victory and get this thing over with.

In the south, you will have to do something about Italy
immediately or else he will be impossible to eliminate.

I best end this letter now, before I type something that
I wish I hadn't. As I indicated in my notes last night.
People around me, perhaps me, will have far bigger
problems than a diplomacy game.

If I proposed the 4-way draw, would everyone vote for it?

Today is layoff day at work. I will most likely get my

to wait. Right now there are more important concerns.

Roger,

My thoughts will be with you, and I hope things
turn out alright for you. If you want to propose
a 4-way, go ahead. My suspicion is that England
and/or Italy would vote no, but I could be wrong.
Actually, I could propose it, if you'd like. It
would serve to cover our plans to eliminate Italy
to a certain extent. No rush on responding.

Good Luck,

who isn't supposed to use it here.

Message from Master to all

Farewell to Turkey, and thank you for playing. If you have time, please
submit by 'press to m' and End-of-game statement for the sake of posterity.
As I've mentioned before, 'titleist' will eventually be a Showcase game
and the readers will no doubt be interested in your take on the game.

Actually, if you prefer, you could broadcast your EOG instead -- it's
up to you. And I'll encourage everyone to add their comments at the
end of the game, as well.

Thanks, again,

Doug

Message from Italy to England and Russia

For the record, if Italy has to disband another unit because Russia moves to
SEV, I will start with the unit closest to French territory and will most
likely support French units against ER forces.

For now, I'll disband Armenia (unless somebody has a better idea) and move
forward.

Noted, without comment.

Hmmm, Sil or Arm seem like the the obvious candidates.
I should be able to fill the War-Sil-Ber line though,
and I believe we need four Units to hold Turkey, don't
we? So, Sil seems like the better choice to me.

Depends what our goal is. If we just want to setup a stalemate line and
accept a 4-way draw and give France the tournament, then yes Silesia is the
correct choice. If, however, our goal is to push France back and continue
this game with 4 relatively equal powers, then Armenia is the correct choice
since I would need to get back to my home centers for this goal to be a
valid one. Armenia has (is there a smaller positive number below zero) no
chance of reaching Italian soil again. At least Silesia has hope for that
one day.

Then, there is what England said, which I think is a mighty fine idea.

No longer Idalia but not quite Roberto yet so I think I'll just sign this
message...........

Yes, but I vote for establishing the stalemate line,
first, (France IS at 14 Centers, after all.), and then
trying to push Ser-Ven, since Serbia is even closer
than Sil.

Message from Russia to Master and Observer

Russian EoY for 1910:

I hesitate to say that things are looking up, since
the Laws of Karma have played me like a Duncan Yo-Yo
in this game, but 1910 was a good year for Russia. I
took four Centers (three French, one Italian) with
my four Units, and only lost one. My one Home Center
means I'll have two unused builds again this year,
but I will FINALLY build my fifth Unit.
I find it ironic that France is threatening to throw
the game to England if I continue to support the
English attack on France, and Italy is threatening
to throw the game to France if I retake Sevastopol.
I still have the fewest Units on the board, and yet
I'm not the one threatening to throw the game.
*shrug* Will either one actually do it? Hard to
say, but Italy at least does have a reasonable motive,
since if I retake Sev, I do have the potential to
eliminate him.
Will I be able to build two next year? I don't
know. Depending on which Army Italy disbands, I
could lose Vie, Mun and Berlin in 1911. France is
talking about a 4-way Draw, but I have to think
that is an attempt to lull me into a mistake.

Nick.

Message from Russia to France

Xavier,

> >If it's any comfort, England didn't want to be in Pic

He wasn't sure he was going to order it when I had to log off last night.
I reccomended against it since he said he didn't want to be there, but I
guess he decided Pic S Hol-Bel, Ruh-Kie was you most likely move.

> For what it is worth, I do not want him in Picardy
> either. We are very close to the point where my defense

You're at 14 Centers, 14 Units; I'm at 7 Centers and 5 Units. If you
choose to throw the game to England, I can't stop you, but as a threat
it has little meaning to me, since it's STILL easier for you to Solo than
it is for you to throw the game to England. If you really want to throw
the game, throw it to me. 8-) At this point it would be almost as easy
as throwing it to England. You'll retake Pic this Spring, and probably
destroy his Fleet in the process, so I don't see that your defense is
appreciably weakened.

> In the south, you will have to do something about Italy
> immediately or else he will be impossible to eliminate.

Italy's response to my move to War was to threaten to throw the
game to you if I take Sev. I will not be able to attack Italy this year,
but we should be able to continue our coordination there.

> If I proposed the 4-way draw, would everyone vote for it?

Italy is talking about disbanding Arm, rather than Sil because he wants
to try to get one or more of his Home Centers back with Sil. My pointing
out that we needed a fourth Unit in Turkey to lock down that end of the
stalemate line carried no weight. I suspect, therefore, that he meant what
he said when he told me he wouldn't set draw unless he had the lead in
the Center count. I'm not sure about Ivy.

Your Friend,

Nick.
