Message from England to Germany

Tony -
The reason I didn't attack Erik, those several seasons ago when you
suggested it, was that at the time I did not think Erik would attack me.
My only dream of a solo was to (a) get all the French centers /and/ (b)
penetrate in the North or center somewhere. If I tried (a) first, Russia
would have had a chance to wipe out Italy and be well prepared. My only
faint hope was to remain in the north as long as possible, and hope the R/I
conflict would actually cause problems for Eric, and I'd be able to
penetrate that way.

To my mind, your strategy would likely have ended in a 3 way with an
outside chance of a Russian solo. My strategy would likely have led to a
draw with a remote chance of an English solo, which alas is not coming to
pass. But I was looking for the solo, and I didn't see how your plan would
get me there.

No doubt you saw a future that I did not, but that was my thinking.
