Turkey: Army Galicia can retreat to Ukraine
Russia: Army Warsaw can retreat to Moscow or Ukraine
Message from France to England
Ivy:
I think that went well. Thank you for keeping the trust
between us.
It looks like we will likely need to transfer Belgium to
you. I do not want to make that a guarantee until we
study the situation, but that seems like a reasonable
starting point.
Russia stayed at 3 again, right?
I know that Italy's retreat is making you nervous. But
remember that it is supressing Turkey making you and I
*both* the big winners. You may need to betray Russia
soon. That decision may influence the Belgium situation.
In many ways, Germany is doing the same thing as Italy,
retreating east, to set up a defense there.
I should look at the map and wait on the retreats before
me make final plans.

Prince Boar,

You just _think_ it went well? 8-)
You will have access to Munich, Venice, Naples and Rome next year. That
should make you feel pretty good.

It depends on whether or not we want you to take all you can get. We will
have to bring our forces into better balance and that may require some
ingenuity. I have no specific plans yet. Like you I must study the map
and look at the retreats and builds.
>Russia stayed at 3 again, right?
Yes, and a Russian retreat to Baltic permits him to walk into Sweden in the
spring. It's not going well for Russia. He is having the same difficulty
subduing Germany that Germany had in finishing off Russia earlier.
I have a very full day. You may not hear from me again in 24 hours.

Message from England to Italy
Good Roberto,
I expect you will destroy the mainland fleet as you indicated you would.
Rather than despair if I do not attack France, I hope that you have noticed
that you have a good chance to overwhelm Turkey and establish yourself with
considerable strength in the Turkish homeland. With some ingenuity you
should get two units from Turkey next year while losing two to
France. Just a shift eastward.
I still have my hands full in the north.

Message from Italy to England
We'll see. If France takes an Italian homeland center, I may just decide to
give everything else that I own to Turkey plus help him into Moscow and
Warsaw.

Sorry. I was trying to disband A War, but neither
D War or R War worked. I guess I'll just retreat,
instead.

The guessing game begins. Which powers are late?

Nick,
I find it amusing that persons in this game don't know how to disband
(you) or remove a unit (me). Apparently, we never had to do these things
before.
The situation around Germany still appears to be dicey. However, once
Fredd removes two units, he will have gaping holes in his defenses. We
won't know how best to proceed until after the build phase.
Now Italy is talking about throwing his units to Turkey instead of France!
I am thinking of building an army in London, which I hope to convoy to
Belgium, and a fleet in Edinburgh, which I hope can move into the North Sea.

*chuckle* Oh, I know how to disband, it's just that
in Adjustments it's Disband War, but in Retreats it's
War Disband, and I do it more often in Adjustments
than Retreats.

Agreed.

I wish he'd throw them to me! ;^}

F Lon and A Edi would probably be less threatening to
France. (He won't have to worry about Lon-ECh-Pic,
followed by Pic-Par, ECh-Bre.)
Your Friend,
Nick.

Ivy:
I hope that you survived your busy day. It appears that
we are still waiting for a late party.
I think that your concerns for Italy handing me all his
centers are becoming less likely. He has sent a letter
strongly warning me not to do so. It appears that he is
reconsidering that tactic. Nevertheless, I am still
leaning towards your taking Belgium as that gets the
fleet out of the Channel! I just do not want to see
another one enter. I also want to have you take Belgium
as I expect that you will need to transfer a center to
Russia. I think that it is best to appease him until
Germany is severely declawed.

Prince Boar,

Yes, with a build phase to follow. Germany's two removals will probably
shape my next moves, but without advance knowledge of what he will remove,
I'm trying to put the game out of my mind and focus on work.
>I think that your concerns for Italy handing me all his

He sent me a note saying that if you take any of his home centers, he will
start giving his units to Turkey. I find this heartening in one sense. It
appears that Roberto is really playing the game in good faith; he seems to
be trying to salvage his position and is not quiting out of disinterest.
There is a chance that he might be able to talk Turkey into a truce line.
That would seem to be in the interest of both Turkey and Italy.

We agree. I probably will be required to retreat from StP. You can score
some points with Russia if you tell him that Eng->Bel & StP->Nor is your
way of transferring one of your units to him. 8-)
I may be out of town from about mid-day Saturday through Monday evening.
I'll let you know.

Message from England to Russia
Nick,
I've suggested to France that it is time for him to repay my loan of
Belgium to him. With tongue in cheek I wrote, "You can score some points
with Russia if you tell him that Eng->Bel & StP->Nor is your way of
transferring one of your units to him."
Please do me a favor and tell me if Prince Boar takes this line with you. 8-)
[I have to do something to amuse myself while waiting for the retreat to
process.]

Message from England to Turkey
Ali,
Roberto is now sending out the message that if France takes an Italian
homeland center he will hand you his other centers.
This is good news on several fronts. For example, it's an indication that
Roberto is still playing the game the way it is meant to be played.
It also means that he appears to have rethought his previously stated
intention of giving everything to France.
You may have a chance of either agreeing to a truce line with Italy or
actually getting his Austrian centers if he carries out this latest threat.
Anyway, I am suggesting that it may be worth trying to talk to Roberto if
you have not already been attempting to do so.
