Message from Italy to England
Ben,
How ya doing. This is going splendidly.
I am in San Francisco for the rest of the week, so we may get to speak a
bit more while you are at work.
I have a suggestion that guarantees you 2 builds, and positions you for a
3rd.
How does this strike you....
NWY - BAR
NTH - NWY
BAL - BOT
BER and KIE support each other
HOL - BEL
ENG s HOL - BEL
BRE - PAR
MAO - BRE
Erik can protect Paris and lose BEL and BRE
or protect BEL and lose BRE and PAR
And it sets you up to take STP next spring. Unless you really want an army
in STP then you leave NTH in place and have it support HOL - BEL and
convoy the army to NWY in the spring.
How does this sound to you.

I like it and it's not greatly different from what I had in before. What
of the vulnerability to BER?

Sounds good. I'd appreciate your thoughts on BER.

Heh. No, I meant the following season, in which F/R could force BER by
cutting KIE, which a suicidal Erik might do.
I'd be happier if I was wrong, which is why I'm asking.

An excellent attack against France - it looks like he's playing pure
defense right now. I do hope you can keep Russia tied up as well, since
it looks like he's gunning to replace France at the top of the heap.
I'm trying to work with Italy to stabilize the situation down here. If
you hear from him at all, please encourage him to work with me, since
France has now left his area. I can't afford for him to keep helping
Russia, and I don't think you can, either.

:-) I aim to please. I'm not sure what "heap" France was ever on the top
of, though. . .

The press archives will show I've been pleading with Andy to work with you.
I will keep it up - your good fight is good for Andy & good for me, too.
Jason, it is excellent to hear from you, and I apologize humbly for not
having written to you sooner.
It's not like me, but real life has been on me like a badger these last

Yes, yes, the English are very dangerous, and you need dots as France
collapses.

Tournament? Come home with lumber?
I'll be around in the morning & here & around the house for most of the
week.
Get some rest.

I don't have anything exciting to write you about, but I hadn't heard from
you in awhile. . . I haven't heard anything from Erik in ages; Andy and, to
my surprise, Jason seemed pleased that I attacked Erik.
So, the baseball scene in San Francisco is in the news again. Excited? ;-)

I do not know what I can do to help you, besides what I've already been doing.
There may come a time soon when I ask for a favor, if things get near the end for you.
Good luck, and I hope it doesn't come to that.

packets of dynamite, or a single jar of peanut butter.

Message from Russia to all
Greetings all,
Well, after much packing, unpacking and schlepping of boxes, I believe that I
am close to rejoining the online world from my new locale. I'll be busy this
evening, but I think tomorrow morning and evening should find me with
sufficient time to check in.
I'll probably still have sporadic availability during the work day, but with
a phone line AND computer both in the same building, it should at least be
possible for me to communicate some. (I have yet to actually try to dial up
yet, but we'll see how that goes tomorrow AM).
Talk to you all soon,
--- Eric

LOL! It took me a sec, but I might have actually gotten that one on my own!
The only reason it was hard to figure out is that out here it hasn't gone out
of the news. Every day or two there's a steroid update since the story first
broke, so there's no "big new story" going on from my point of view.
Hey, I actually met Andy in person last Friday (he was in SF on business). We
were careful not to discuss the current/future state of this game, but he
mentioned that you and he are near neighbors. I failed to ask him if you two
know each other though? Are you at all involved in the FtF scene? Andy may
have convinced me to fly up for DipCon in Portland this April.

Well, I don't really play ftf, and I haven't been to DC from Baltimore
since I met Andy in this game. So, no we are not in the same ftf circles,
and we haven't met, but I look forward to looking him up when I next get to
the new home of Clinton Portis. I suspect I get there more often than he
gets *here*, but hopefully if he were to come to Baltimore, he'd look me up.
I'd probably get clubbed like a baby seal in ftf. Plus I don't have the
large blocks of weekend time; hell, DipCon was in DC last year, and I
couldn't get there.

try to withdraw further.

Well, I've put in my orders, which were inspired by your suggestion though

Anyway I do not work again until Thursday night; I'll be around on & off as
usual.

Forcing HOL - BEL w/ ENG and NTH, and ordering MAO - POR and BRE - PAR,
with KIE - RUH.
Puts off the attack on STP, but that can come as soon as next year.

If you do MAO - BRE, you give yourself a chance at 3 builds.

Nothing. Zero...we havent traded press this season.

I was thinking you could suggest a defense of BEL, so I could get into his
home centers.
Thinking about it again I'm not sure it's (a) going to make a difference or
(b) worth your investment, so nevermind, unless you think it wise.
I should go to sleep, on the nights when I'm home. . .

If it were anyone but Erik...I would consider it...at this point he has to
consider anything I say to be a trap...

Ben,
Its too late for that.

This chain of correspondence was a barely-concealed fishing expedition by
me, to attempt to find out whether Andy was advising Erik:

My conclusion is consistent with my expectation - Erik and Andy are
incapable of getting along. Plus they are incompatable correspondents -
Andy responds *very* quickly, but doesn't seem to initiate much, and Erik
writes only rarely.

Well, the post-deadline negotiations begin.
I don't need to know right now if you are ordering SIL - BOH. However, it
*will* make a difference in the upcoming build phase, as the eased pressure
on BER will permit me to focus more exclusively elsewhere.

By "elsewhere," I mean, "France."
Also any comments about Jamal Lewis will be met with war.
I am distraught, and considering giving up football for Lent, and I'm not
even Catholic. Nor is it football season. That's how upset I am.
Ben
Message from Russia to England
Hey Ben,
Sorry to be so silent. I did manage to get orders in, though. Small
victories. :)
I'm not planning to move to Boh just yet. I want to wait until there's a tad
more defense for the homeland. (Sil protects War as well as Mun). But that's
not a refusal to *ever* move from there. I'm not going to attack Ber if that
helps you any.
Sorry to read about Jamal. Around here the talk is all about Garcia and
Owens. I haven't heard what C Woodson status is either. Fun, fun, fun.
