Message from Russia to England
Hey Ben,
Well, thank you for backing off. I trust that you didn't take the attack on
Ber as a "real" assault. It'll be interesting to see what Erik does next.
I certainly was surprised to see Jason's disband. Believe it or not, that
was not negotiated.
I've sent a message to Erik -- I'll let you know what I hear. In the
meantime, it's not obvious to me what our next negotiations should focus
on. But I'm here for at least some of the weekend.
Hope you are doing well.

I didn't mind it. It gave your pieces something to do, which I guess was
the point.

Lucky duck. I wonder what he's thinking.

Well, if we are to pursue the dream of a 2WD, then I think we should make
an effort to hold the current line in the North, through the German
provinces, for now.

And yourself, my friend.
Please stop receiving my thoughts from anyone but me. . .

My "same wavelength" receptor seems to be failing recently. I don't get
this one either. :o

You didn't get a missent press from Andy?
It doesn't matter.
Any thoughts for the coming spring?

So are you actually going to carry on with this foolishness? Do I really
have to do whatever Eric asks (and he's making demands, believe me) just
to defend myself against you?
Erik
Message from Russia to England
Duh! I get it. Yes, I got a reply from Andy intended for you. Frankly, I read
it as closely as the comment that inadvertently went to vtgroup. I got that
you were thinking about attacking someone, but that was it -- I just hoped it
wasn't me. :)
I'll probably tap on Berlin again just to keep you honest. Let me know if
that poses any problems for you.
Beyond that, I'd appreciate any continued westward movement you can perform,
as I won't be venturing into Scandinavia for the rest of the game.

Seriously. Just give me a sign that you see the errors of your ways.
Anything. I'd hate to think we just gave this game up over one piece not
moving to Ruhr.

I am finally looking at the computer after too long away - I will write more

Eric -
Will you be "tapping" BER - fine with me, either way - with one or with two?
I will *not* be convoying into Russian home turf, but I am aware of that
possibility, and if you will be leaving BER and KIE be while I push further
west, then we will continue to get along fine.
Get back to me if you get a chance - sorry to wait until we are close to the
deadline.
Ben
Message from Russia to England
The only reason to attack Ber is to ensure such a convoy does not take place,
which is why I told you about it (I don't want to take Ber, I just want to
ensure that Bal is occupied). I'm not planning anything against Kie nor
anything successful against Ber. All that would accomplish is causing you to
pull back from Erik, which is not in either of our interests. If you really
want to move west, I can consider foregoing a supported attack on Ber. Can
you tell me which units will be moving away as inducement?
Speaking of whom -- what are you hearing from Erik and Andy these days? Erik
asked for some support against you, which I declined to provide, but I can't
tell whether he's going to defend himself or throw himself against Andy. Andy
still purports to be a friend of mine, though I gather from his press to you
(that I got) that he's still looking to get into a 3way. Just curious to hear
what your take is from the other side of the two of them.

> Can you tell me which units will be moving away as inducement?
A SWE, for one - a convoy to a different destination, more to your liking.
I imagine that's enough incentive by itself. . . Let me know if you will be
tapping with one. If I'd wanted to convoy to LVN, by the way, the loss of
BER mightn't dissuade me. Haven't given it too much thought - hope not to
*have* to.

:-) Andy B. talking draw - just like him.
Erik has really settled down and writing pleasant enough press. I am
genuinely surprised, after watching him write so much *angry* press in
Comments.
I think right now we are looking at EIR as the most likely outcome. You & I
may have the best shots at a solo, with the proving ground to be the
Mediterranean. We shall see - in this company, I would be proud to survive
to a draw. As E/R, we have the option of pursuing the 2-way, of course.
> I'll be watching press until the deadline
As will I.
Ben
Message from Russia to England
Fair enough. I will not support the attack on Ber. I hadn't thought about the
idea that you might not worry about losing Ber. I'll have to tuck that tidbit
away for the future. :)
> > I'll be watching press until the deadline

I believe you are channelling other people here. :) I don't recall saying
that. The way things have been going recently I have avoiding making any
statements about when I will be available for press.

I agree.

The way my last several games have gone, I'd be proud to survive elimination,
let alone to be part of a draw!
> As E/R, we have the option of pursuing the 2-way, of course.
There is a good chance that will be an option.

Ha. Reading it again, I think I was channeling myself - I wrote the first line, & editing my own note, I thought you'd written it. . .

I am frustrated to admit I am in the same position. Reassigned at work, I thought I'd end up with *more* time, instead it's been much less. Frankly we'd better get this game wound down if I have a prayer of getting in the '04 VGFP.

So, you're a lawyer too?

Not at all, just very conservative about predicting the future. Talk to Andy
about it -- he can tell you everything that's wrong about the way I predict
future moves. :)

Sorry to make it so late. As you will see from the press archive, when we
are finished, I've gone through a period of low press-volume. Real life
unfortunately intruding on my Dip career.
For right now, I don't think I'm going to back off.
You will do what you have to do. You may find your best chance of being in
a draw is focussing on the Med., as you told me you would do, particularly
if you think E and R will be the big players. As you have probably guessed,
I am glad to change directions from time to time, and I would not be at all
surprised to see me needing you & you needing me to be in a draw.
But after all the distrust between us, mostly I suppose my own fault, I
don't think I can back off right now.
Ben
Message from England to England
I made the stab last phase and will follow through because I am hopeful,
down the road, some bad judgement by Eric, an untimely attack against Andy,
may net me a solo. Also now I am secure from being eliminated by France in
a draw without me.
I realize this course is substantially more risky than sticking with France.
Eventually I will see the dialogue on this subject; I hope this course isn't
unreasonably dangerous.
My last note to Erik was designed to hold the door open for dialogue down
the road. Leading him on now wouldn't serve a good enough purpose - if I
lied again to him now, that bridge would be burned forever.
