Yes. I'll order Alb-Ion-Apu, Gre S Ion, Smy-Aeg or EMS, two supports to Ber,
and Tyl-Pie. I'll figure out other stuff to order too, but that seems to be
the most important. I will NOT move to Ven in spring.
I heard back from Erik and he indicated that he'd like support to Nap, but he
hasn't told me which unit is moving yet.
And lest you worry when/if I go silent, we had a truck turn around in our
driveway last night and snap the drop for our voice and DSL line. So I may be
sparse online until the phone company gets around to fix it. (No, I am not
making this up either.)

Eric:
Obviously, I'm not heading to Munich this turn, and you can count on
Andy being supported there, so I'd recommend taking Venice. In the
interests of speeding things up, can you support Rom - Nap?
I'm not too worried about Ben, especially with the build of A Lon, and
you're in a position to capitalize on any abandonment of Tunis, so I
think that will keep him in line.
I'll be out of town through Monday night, but I'll check e-mail
occasionally. Orders are going in now, set wait.

Ben:
I'm going to move Gas - Bur with support; I suppose supporting Andy in
Munich would be the best course of action this turn in that space. Bal S
Bre can hold that position, as can Bar S Stp, so the north looks stable.
Can I ask that Iri / Mao / Eng remain DMZd for continued stability?
I will keep pushing down south, though I can always fall back on the
line you discussed (and which I'd observed earlier) in your last press.
Any idea what dying tricks Andy might have up his sleeve?

Of course.

Yeah, I only wanted to make sure you see it so you don't accidentally get
your retreat cut off. Make sure your various fleets can each reach where
they need to be. . . That's why I pointed it out. I wasn't trying to
insult your intelligence, just making sure I did my due diligence. . .

He's telling me Eric's asked for support into PIE. Curious, that, & I'm
not sure what to make of it.

Ok. You now have my thoughts, though I confess my orders aren't in yet.
Travel well!

Message from Russia to Italy
Andy,
Unsurprisingly, Erik has asked for support to Nap from Rome. I will offer
it. That should mean that Ven S Nap-Rom is the right choice for orders. But
whatever you'd like to order is fine with me. Don't get me wrong -- I'd
love the solo, but I was prepared for the three way when I supported Erik
to Mun. If you want to go with Ven-Rom and bet that Erik is trying to screw
with me (or if you just don't really want to hand me the solo), I won't
take it at all badly.
Take care. If this season processes at the same rate others have, I may see
you in Portland before we exchange much more in the way of press. :)

Advice noted.
I would MUCH rather hand you a solo, that be cut out of a draw.
Message from Russia to Germany
Tony,
Sorry for the silence. We'll see how things are going to end pretty quickly
now.
While I do agree that I haven't soloed based largely on not following your
post-elimination advice, on reviewing the press log I see that you actually
missed a message from me when you were still around:

As it turns out, I had told you that I was willing to support you in Kie,
which was what you claimed I had not done. So, if I don't solo, it's
actually your fault for not reading your press carefully. It is all on your
head! :)
Hope you're doing well.

Message from Germany to Russia
Hey Eric, good to hear from you too mate. I had actually already deleted the
game from floc.net assuming it would be all over soon. I was finally down
to 10 games (including 6 from vgnp tournament) and two I am GM-ing. So what
is going on here? I just took a look at the map.
Have EFR decided to downsize to a 3 way by removing Italy?
Let me know, good to hear it is my fault :-)
Mind you in those days I was having a lot of trouble with my ISP and mail.
It wouldnt surprise me if I did mis something somewhere along the line.
Although I doubt I would have believed you ;-)
Catch you soon in the EOG's.

Well, Andy decided to help EF stop my solo bid (perhaps aided in part by my
attacking him), and so threw away his defense against Erik. When I was
stalemated, I agreed to help EF to an EFR. Erik misordered, making Mun
vulnerable. So there is an outside chance that I could take advantage of
it, but yes, I think that EFR is still likely.
>Let me know, good to hear it is my fault :-)
To be fair, I only said it was *originally* your fault.
>Mind you in those days I was having a lot of trouble with my ISP and mail.
Oh sure, a likely excuse! :)

Sounds good!

Oh, I misread your note (see below).
>Obviously, I'm not heading to Munich this turn, and you can count on

Makes sense. In the long run, it's probably fine to have Ben take Mun once
Andy falls, so do (or don't do) whatever you want around Germany.
>In the
>interests of speeding things up, can you support Rom - Nap?
Yes.
>I'm not too worried about Ben, especially with the build of A Lon, and

That makes sense tos.
>I'll be out of town through Monday night, but I'll check e-mail

This is what I misread. I thought you said "Orders are going in now, no
wait". So I didn't bother to respond. I just entered my orders (no wait)
assuming that they'd all process before we talked again.
Sorry for the confusion and resulting lack of response.

That was the logic behind building A War and not F Sev, though I don't know
if that was clear. (The fact that A War was also required to seal up my
line had something to do with my choice too, though.)

Well, as I always say, "Better to act like a moron than to act as a moron."
Or something like that. :)
>Let me know if you see something.
"I see London, I see France...."
I think it's all in your hands at the moment. If I have neither Mun nor
Ber, then getting Tun still has me at only 17. That is the focal point for
our current situation. As I see it, your mission, should you decide to
accept it, is to create a position wherein you feel confident that Mun and
Ber will not fall into my hands, even should Erik decide to try and get me
in them.

P.S. No, I am not drunk, though you would not be able to tell from this
message! :)

*sigh*
With Erik in France and Andy in Italy. . . I should have gotten further in
this game.

Yes, well, I choose to act like a moron often enough that the distinction
may be blurry. But I make it a point not to act *for* a moron!

Your subsequent denial of intoxication is not credible.

Of course, BER is easy - it is done already. MUN is the sticky point. If
you are in SIL/BOH/TYR, then you can bring 3 units against it. So I would
need to be able to support it twice, and BER can be cut, so it would pretty
much have to be KIE and RUH, fashioned in such a way that RUH cannot be
cut. Plus I would have to be *in it* - if Andy were still there I do not
think a team of oxen could get him out. So, that's the hard part.
> P.S. No, I am not drunk, though you would not be able to tell from this

This denial is itself so confusing that it is not credible.
I have written some bad press in my day, when I've been drinking. Do it at
your own peril! ;o)

No, truly, I was not drunk, though I had just returned from an event called
"Rivers of Chocolate", and so was suffering major sugar-highs!
I also had a lot of dumb sarcasm pent up due to things that I really can't
talk about in detail here, not knowing who is observing our press. :)

Earlier in this game I was gm'ing a full press (now finished) game
featuring, coincidentally, Tony Vernon. That game got pretty wild & I had
to eject someone - not Tony - for being a hopeless scofflaw.
It was pretty weird separating it out from the discussion here.

He didn't tell me he was going to attack you before. This phase I've
gently asked him to go slowly & he basically told me he's not stupid.

While this dialogue is amusing Andy & myself, I actually think Erik did the
right thing to attack when he did, as the chance of a 4 way is of course
small, and if Erik had tipped me off that he was attacking Andy, I would
have had the opportunity to tweak the situation to keep it unstable -
permitting my lingering solo hopes to go on.
So, as amusing as this semi-slanderous banter is, I think the more accurate
reflection on Erik's attack against Andy, is that Erik has done us all a
favor by accelerating the simplification. As I wrote to Eric.
