Message from France to Master
Of all the possible moves I looked for out of the Russian this past spring
(and I did spend quite a bit of time pondering), the convoy to Clyde is
one that I didn't even consider. I mean, we're not talking about I
considered and dismissed it - I didn't even think about it.
Having said that however, I don't think it's that great of a move. It's
not bad certainly, but I don't think that it really gains him that much.
But it does put me into a position where I have to make tradeoffs. So I
am going to sacrifice my position in Kiel, in exchange for guaranteeing
the safety of Nth and Edi, along with likely destruction of A Cly and
possible dislodgement of F Nwg. It's possible I even hold onto Clyde if
Italy supports me again (and Russia doesn't cut it).
Even if I lose Kiel I'm okay. With Italy showing signs of peace, I can
get rid of A Gas. And if Russia attacks Italy in Munich, then it probably
swings Italy even further into my camp, which has to be a good thing. I
don't need to take any of the Italian mainland centers to solo, and the
sooner we break up the IRT that's been going along for nearly half the
game, the better.
Another thing that does for me is even Russia and I up at 11 SC each. Yet
another thing to do to encourage the break of RT. Wouldn't be too
surprised to see Gre-Ser, Con-Bul, Apu-Smy (to go to Arm next spring)
along with a Black Sea fleet build.
South moves are obvious - I'll support Italy from Pie and Bur, support
myself in the Tys and support Kie with Ruh.
Hel S Nth, Nth S Nao-Nwg, Edi S Lvp-Cly guarantees Nth (uncuttable
support), and Edi (both supports cut). The only move that saves Cly is
Nwg-Edi, and the only move that saves Nwg is Nwy-Nth. It is possible that
he will do both of those, which will be annoying to be sure, especially if
he also takes Kiel. I would think that he would order Cly-Edi, Nwy S
Nwg-Nth, making me choose between Kiel and the North Sea. In which case I
sacrifice Kiel, hold Nth, destroy Cly, and take Nwg. A tradeoff I'll make
any day.
I did give a bunch of thought to Nao S Nth-Nwg (ye good olde reverse
attack), but it's not worth the risk if he doesn't do Nwg-Nth. I don't
want to get too fancy on myself here.
