Message from Austria to Master
I hate playing Austria. It has got to be the worst
country to play in the whole game. Everyone always
wants to attack you in the beginning making you an
easy target. I will do my best to survive but we'll
see what happens...
Message from England to Master
I like the new random preference setting, so I used that. I'm pretty happy
to be drawing a Western power although it is my least favorite of the
three. I've only tried lon-eng once and it is not an experiment I am eager
to repeat. Standard northern opening for me. The only real decision is
where to put the army. Without going into all the arguments for yor vs
edi, I'll just say they both have good points and bad points and for this
game, I'll pick yor unless I change my mind at the last moment.
Message from France to Master
I set my preference list (I think) FRTEGIA. I put the powers at the
bottom that I have played more in no-press. I have soloed no-press with
GIE, and a postal press type game as T. I didn't really feel like playing
Austria, success in the original game comment notwithstanding, and so that
left F and R. Russia is my best power with press, but for whatever
reason, I play horribly with Russia as no-press, so I thought I would give
it a try. I have played one game no press as France (USVG:bonita), and it
was unbelievable for the first few years. I went 3-6-8-9-10-11-12 by
1906, and that includes not covering for an English stab in 1906 that took
2 centers off of me. I never really recovered and eventually ended up
with EFT. So I thought I would give France another chance and so am
pleased to see myself playing it.
I plan on opening
Bre-Mao
Mar-Bur
Par-Pic
This is my preferred no-press opening for France. I'll be okay if Germany
bounces my move to Bur, which will give me a shot at 3 builds in 1901. If
he doesn't bounce, then I have a supported attack on Belgium, as well as a
potential shot at Munich in the fall.
Message from Germany to Master
In the absence of any possibility of communication or co-ordination, these seem to be the moves which afford the greatest opportunities for expansion (up to 3 neutral centres), with the least risk.
Message from Italy to Master
So Italy it is... Well, I guess someone's got to do
it! It could've been worse: Austria... :)
I set preference FTIAGRE for no particular reason; I
still do not have a favourite country to play with so
I try to rotate them and hopefully be equally
(un)successful with all seven powers.
(In the off-chance someone cares about it, my best
record is France -solo, 3WD, 4WD & 2 losses-, followed
by (surprise...) Austria -solo, 3WD & 3 losses-. My
worst country is England -4WD & 4 losses-).
Actually my personal record with Italy is not that
bad: 4WD & 2 losses. I've tried to avoid Italy so far
because I haven't had a clear idea of how to play the
green units, so it's the country I've played the
least. But I must say that I'm beginning to find Italy
a very exciting country to conduct. Let's hope this
one confirms that impression.
In my previous attempts at Italy's command (expect one
Lepanto hint which ended with my getting ruthlessly
eliminated by A) I ordered A Ven - Tyr, A Rom - Ven, F
Nap - Ion. Not with the intention to attack Austria,
but to go after France at some point. Attacking
Austria right away is usually not a very good idea
because most probably it means that Italy is doomed in
the midgame. An alliance with Austria followed by an
attack on France may provide good prospects. The usual
problem is how to attack France without telegraphing
Italy's intention. This most conventional opening may
help create the conditions for a later surprise attack
on France while keeping Austria worried about Italy's
intentions.
On the other hand, a stab on Austria in, say, 1903 may
be the only chance to solo. Italy may (or must,
perhaps) be more opportunistic than other powers...
Let's see what happens!
Message from Russia to Master
Thanks for creating this game. I really enjoyed reading
the comments from the previous game and as soon as
I saw that comment2 was looking for one more player,
I went for it.
Now, as Russia, I prefer to wait a bit and see what
happen. My short term goal is to take over Rumania
and ally myself with either Austria or Turkey to secure
a strong southern position from wich to expand, while
I keep a low profile in the north until I can make a move.
So, I will open with: f sev-bla, a mos-ukr, a war-gal &
f stp-fin. The southern moves will allow me to keep
Austria and Turkey at bay until I'm ready to choose
wich to ally with and I could endup occupying important
territories early if I'm lucky.
As for the move to Finland, while it still allow me to go
for Sweden, it preclude me from entering the Baltic Sea,
wich I have no intent of doing until the south is secure. If
Russia's elimination is Germany short term goal, it's
probably not going to change anything and he will bounce
me in Sweden to keep me weak, but I would at least be
in a better position to defend Stp if there's an EG alliance.
On the other hand, if he has other plan or is still undecided,
seeing me move away from the Baltic Sea should incite him
to do the same and let me gain Sweden.
Message from Turkey to Master
Hmmmm Turkey hey, I wonder where my set preference went wrong or is it just
something I have eaten which is making my stomach churn.
OK, will look at the board and consider the options. Good luck to all.
Goal: Damage control
