Message from France to Master

Wow, so now I have even less of a clue what Russia is up to. I did not
even consider the possibility of an "Option 4" which was pull back
further.

I wonder if his motive is one of disgust or apathy? Maybe he's just sick
of the game and wants to get it over with quickly? And making it a race
between myself and Turkey (one which I seem much more likely to win) If
so, that is disappointing, even if it does result in my getting a solo.
I hope that he has given his motivations in his press to m, at least.

If that is the case, then his removals will be the telling factor. He is
likely to have at least 2, and possibly as many as 4 removals this year.
I wonder how he will decide his removals. I certainly considered the case
that he would remove his units on the Turkish front before deciding on my
spring moves. But now with his spring moves, it's certainly possible that
he'll remove units close to me. I mean if he wants to get the game over
with, removing something like F Bar, F Stp and F Swe would just about be
guaranteed to get the game over by the end of 1924. Or maybe he'll try to
be "fair" and remove units from both sides. Maybe he'll just submit the
default judge CD removals. I actually searched for the algorithm that the
judge uses in that, to see what it might be. The judge will remove the
least recently built unit(s) that are not currently sitting on a SC. So,
depending on fall moves, those would be, in order:

A Lvn
A War (only if it moves somewhere like Pru or Sil)
F Bal
F Swe (if it moves somewhere like Fin or Ska)
A Ukr
F Bar

In any case, this all probably does not matter. If Russia continues to
play apathetic, then I'll almost certainly solo. If he starts trying to
fight against me, I think he's been weakened enough that I still have
pretty good odds at a solo (though I've said that before...)

I will make a grab for as many centers as I can (trying to hold the ones
I've got and also Swe and Nwy).

Turkey's reaction will be interesting. It seems that he is still trying
to be on Russia's side (i.e. F Bul S Rum), so the move to Vienna is likely
a feint. I suspect his plan was to then order Tyl S Vie-Boh here in the
fall. He probably didn't convoy his intentions so as to not tip me off.
So my plan is to make a supported attack on Bohemia to bounce that and
force Russia to take another removal. It's possible that Turkey will see
Russia's moves and just decide to keep Vienna, but it's still likely that
he'll try to make it into Bohemia anyways, just with Vie S Tyl-Boh instead
of the reverse.

In the Mediterranean, Turkey did try to shuffle his fleets. I should have
gone with my gut reaction, which was Wes-Tys, Tun-Ion, but I can't really
fault myself too much for wanting to play it safe, as Ion S Tys-Tun would
have been devastating. Moving Tun-Ion would have bounced his follow up
fleet, delaying the attack he is attempting to set up on Tys/Tun by one
season, in a time where every season is crucial.

In any case, I think that I am guaranteed to be able to hold Tunis IF I
get 2 builds this year AND I can afford to use them both as fleets (Bre,
Mar) to send into the Med. The real question is if I'll get those builds
(likely) and if I'll be able to use them both to send into the Med
(possible but I can't yet say likely). So my goal with my orders for this
fall are to delay as best I can Turkey's attacks so as to possibly be able
to use a future build for duty in the Med. I have a couple of options.

1. A Tus-Ven. The reason to use this would be if I thought Turkey was
going to try to keep Vie, take Rum, and still make a supported attack on
Boh, since Ven would have to go to Tyl and Tri would have to cover Ser
from a retreat by A Rum. Probably a low-probability strategy, though if
it succeeded, and I also took Swe and Nwy in addition to Den and Ber, then
I would solo this year.

2. Lyo, Tun S Tys, Tys S Tus-Rom. Something like this is probably my
first option. Reason being is that Turkey's likely move is Ven S Rom-Tus,
to continue the fleet shuffling. This would thwart that move. To get his
move to Tuscany to succeed, he would have to cut my support in Tys, but if
he does that, then he can't fully shuffle, which delays things.

3. Lyo S Tus, Tus S Tys-Rom. This would be a killer move if Turkey does
in fact do Ven S Rom-Tus, but it would be pretty bad if he just tried a
3-strength attack on Tys.

I'm tired of this, but France still want to play. Since
I don't care what is my sc count in the end, he can
have all he want, as long as it's less then 18 of course
(Stp, War or Vie should be defended from France).
