That went fairly well. It would have been nice if Austria had stopped the
obvious gal-bud, but he probably doesn't care much if Russia grows. Either
that or he somehow convinced himself Russia wanted to be his friend. At
least Turkey was slowed a bit. Italy followed an opening I didn't like
(but others will make a case for) with a move set that was just plain
weak. Was he expecting maybe bur s tyr-mun? On the second move of a
no-press game? Having said "A", he had to say "B" and take a guess at
either vie or tri.
In my little corner of the world, I was very happy (if surprised) to see
the French attack on Germany as it gives me a choice of allies. Germany
impressed me with his cool defense and his (in my opinion) correct bounce
of Russia in Sweden. I think we see the situation alike and that he would
make a good ally. Given that, I think my best plan now is to build a fleet
in London. I have no doubt that he will get the message. France will too,
but that can't be helped. If France builds a fleet in Brest, I'll be glad
I have something to fight him with. If he doesn't, the attack is very easy.
I also have no doubt that Germany will see what I see in the north. He
should be able to build two armies (and I think needs to) and still be able
to claim Sweden. Unless Russia builds in StP and Mos, we will be able to
take Sweden and StP next year. If he does build in StP and Moscow, he
loses momentum in the south. The bad part is that he may well be able to
take another Austrian center next year even if he does build in
mos/stp. The good news is that even with those builds, he has to guess how
to defend and he may not want to spend a build and end up losing out
anyway. Looking a little more, even putting an army in Moscow doesn't help
if Germany builds an army in Berlin and moves on Warsaw. Yes, I like the
EG alliance in this position. I will build a fleet in London.
Message from France to Master
I'm building A Par and F Bre, and hoping for peace with Germany. I think
that he will take peace with me once he sees my build of F Bre. I would
like to build 2 fleets, but am worried that will make me too inviting of a
target for those black fleets.
I've never really been a fan of the early attack on Stp for Engalnd. In
my experience, it just dead ends too early. And especially in no-press,
it's hard to get an ally out of FG, so they just tend to ally against you.
But maybe England is hoping that he can entice Germany with thoughts of
Sweden, and in turn also get him to move west against me.

Safeguarding Munich against those nasty French and Italians and preserve the maximum flexibility in the north (ideally Kie-BAL and then Swe in F1902, but who knows).

Well, A Tyr - Mun has failed again... this time not
only I bounced G but F as well. Nevermind...
Austria must be regretting not ordering A Vie - Gal in
Spring. He is now in serious trouble.
The question for me now is whether to try and bail out
Austria from its plight or rather join and grab my
share. Given Austria's weakness I tend to think that
the second alternative is more sensible.
B F Nap is usually a no-brainer for Italy, but perhaps
if I decide for an Austrian attack, B A Rom may prove
more useful.
After some hesitation I decided for the latter. I've
seen in previous games that the Ven-Tyr-Boh trio can
be extremely effective. Let's see if I can make it!

Oops! England go for broke in Scandinavia. Even
worst, France has thrown Germany into an EG
alliance by attacking Munich, dumb! By his own
actions, France as just lost what he worked hard to
acquire, Belgium.
Now, instead of having it easy in the north because
of the threat posed by a strong France, I will surely
lose in the north what I gain in the south.
Hope my presence in Finland complicate things long
enough for France to hurt England real bad, but I
somehow doubt this will happen :-( I'm building
armies in Stp & War and will see what happen.
