Well, the good thing about a garbage position is that it doesn't take a
whole lot of time to play. I was surprised by France's build. With me and
Germany on the ropes, I expected him to build in mar and take a bigger role
in the Med. Either he is playing for a three-way or he is hoping Italy and
Turkey will come to blows. It is a little risky as Italy may find it
enticing to head west. If that happens, Turkey could explode. It also
doesn't seem to offer much in the way of solo chances. He needs Tunis or
part of Italy.
Russia picked up the fleet which gives me a little room to play the
position. Not that there is a whole lot I can do. I'll support North Sea
and support bal-den. It is tempting to believe that Germany will try
bal-kie and I should risk swe-den bouncing France, but it is a little out
there to think Germany will believe I'm on his side if I pulled that.

So... what to do. F Bre is moving to Naf via Mao in an attempt to secure
Tunis. The way I see it, we're likely to see Ion S Tun, Tun S Rom-Tys in
the spring. I will try to thwart that with Wes-Tun, with Tys S Tun to
show friendship. In the fall though, I have to guess whether they will
stick with that plan or try Ion S Rom-Tys. Even if I guess wrong, I still
have several chances to break through, since they need a 4th fleet to hold
me back.
In the north, I decided to support myself to Nth, even though that risks a
dislodged German fleet forward retreating somewhere I don't like (Eng or
Bel/Hol if I leave it open)
I need to use A Par to cover Mar against a possible Ven-Pie. I think I'll
move it to Gas to also possibly cover Bre against Nth-Eng.
To finish it off, Bur, HOl S Bel-Ruh to advance. He may retreat to Bel,
but if he does, I'm likely to secure Mun and possibly one of Ken/Die in
exchange. Or, I can likely take it back in fall if that proves to be the
better move.

Alas, it seems I have miscalculated yet again, and the final collapse cannot be far off. At this point it's likely all I can do is slow France down to some extent.

Gee, I kinda lost track of the game lately, tough real
life week...
Anyway, I'm glad to see that I'm still in relatively
good shape, I'm tied with Turkey in 7 units and second
only to the French, who has no less than 10.
Surprisingly enough the Russian has "pulled back"
which made him shrink from 6 to 4, letting me & Turkey
another build. That France has not built in Mar is
also good news.
It's high time I take a look at the bigger picture.
England's bold but risky strategy has ended up with
all the Island occupied by France. Apparently neither
E nor G may be able to put up effective resistance
against France. That is extremely worrisome, because
France has managed to remain a bicoastal power and if
it gets really going it may be very difficult to avoid
the solo. That threat may not be a bad thing, because
it should prompt Turkey to cooperate with me to
contain the French expansion.
At this stage I think the most likely outcome appears
to be a 3 or 4 WD (hopefuly me included), with France
occupying G, Scandinavia and StP. So basically my goal
seems to be, in order of priority, to (a) contain
France, (b) have a friendly relationship with T, (c)
try to knock out R in order to better the draw.
Eliminating Russia appears to be a difficult
undertaking, though.
This season my objective is to kick France out of Tys.
It is risky because I have no 100% certainty of
keeping Tun, unless T supports me.
It is also difficult to see where to get new centres.
As I said Russia is not an easy target in the short
run. At best it may take two years to get War, for
instance. Going after France would mean at best a
standoff in Pie...
The most feasible option appears to be Mun, but I'm
not sure whether that is a good strategic move. It may
only hasten French domination and it will surely be a
short-lived occupation because, as everybody knows,
Mun is very hard to keep. On the other hand it may be
necessary to make up for the possible loss of Tun, and
G will not be able to defend against F anyway.

Without a strong defensive position, any attempt
to speed France's solo won't last long enough to
enjoy it. It also send a strong signal to Turkey.

Goal: not sure
News:
... French solo very likely
In general:
... Maybe IRT should go for the 4 way. The trouble is this may take more
time to communicate to Russia than actually removing russia and holding the
line with italy.
